Welcome to my online photo galleries. My professional photography career began in 1990. I was a photojournalist for 17 years working for newspapers and magazines in New England. In 2006 I moved to Arizona, leaving my photojournalism career behind to focus on fine art photography full-time.

Since becoming a full-time artist I have acquired collectors worldwide. Perfect for the home, office, restaurant or other installations, my photography comes alive through my painstaking attention to detail and quality. Sizes, editions, and printing options are available for every budget. Feel free to contact me directly on how my fine art photography can help beautify your room and your life.

"Big Rock" - Utah

June 06, 2012  •  Leave a Comment

This was photographed in 2011 and processed in 2012. I found this location while driving back to Arizona from some art festivals I was doing in Colorado. It was photographed south of Moab, Utah.

From the looks of it the big rock in the foreground came from the bluff in the background. Wind and water continue to erode the sandstone beneath the rock and I am sure it will once again continue its path down the hill.

Fortunately I had some great cloud cover for this image. This was a 3-photo HDR that was tonemapped in Photomatix Pro. Nik Software's Viveza 2 and Color Efex Pro 4 were used to complete the processing, along with some edits in Photoshop.

"104 East Main Street" - Denison, Texas

Blocked from the public with a chain link fence, an historic building in Denison, TX continues to succumb to Mother Nature following work done while removing a loading dock area on the left, railroad track side of the building two years prior to me photographing here in Spring of 2012.

Separate court cases are preventing anything from being done to the building and it is unclear if it can be saved at this point. With each passing storm however, Mother Nature causes a little bit more damage and another brick to fall. Soon this landmark may be gone forever.

Photographed with my Canon 5DII and 17-40mm lens. A three photo HDR I processed in Photomatix Pro. I also used Topaz Adjust and Color Efex 4 software to enhance the image, as well as a few manual tweaks in Photoshop.

I wanted to go with a real aggressive HDR look to this photo as I felt it needed it to tell the story of this building. I spent a while before I photographed looking for the best camera angle. Staying behind a 6' tall fence presents many challenges, of course. While walking around I noticed a section of fence I could fit my camera below. I took my camera off the tripod, braced it on the ground, and was able to take three exposures without any camera movement.

One of the three original photos, shown with no corrections and as the camera photographed the scene.

You can see in the above photo what one of the three original photos looked like. It gives a great view as to just how much work was needed on this photo to create the exact look I was after.
