3-week update on my 8-week summer tour

It was three weeks ago yesterday I started my 8-week summer tour through UT, CO, and WY photographing and selling my photography at fine art festivals.

Despite the mud from Friday's rain, RV parking for the Steamboat Spings Art in the Park was surely scenic.

On June 18, I left Santa Fe and July 10 finds me writing this on my laptop outside my RV at an RV resort in Central Colorado. I am between a couple small mountains next to a river with a railroad nearby too. It’s not perfect as there unfortunately is some noise from the nearby highway - oh well, can’t win them all.

I had a nice view of the ski area at Vail during the Vail Arts Festival.

In the three weeks so far on the road I have driven only around 1,300 miles as many of my shows are near one another. The Utah Arts Festival was my best show in a couple years, and the Vail Arts Festival was another great show. The Steamboat Springs Art in the Park show should probably be renamed though. There were only a small percentage of us fine art artists at that show and I learned why - patrons at that show prefer giftable craft items and food - and sales for the many fine artists I talked to were poor. Again - can’t win them all.

Another road trip means more time spent in the garage, this time here in Avon, CO.

The trip hasn’t been without its problems - although what trip ever is? So far my problems have been relatively light - my iphone crashed on me on Day 1 and took nearly 24 hours before it was back up and running. And I finally discovered the source of my power steering leak was due to a defective part installed in April that I had to spend 4 hours in a shop in Avon, CO last week getting the warranty work done.

Nothing like the problems I had a few years ago that left me stranded in Blanding, UT for 3 days and a couple weeks later caused me to miss a show due to another truck issue.

This weekend it is on to the Art on the Rockies show in Edwards, CO. Following that I travel to Jackson Hole, WY where I am looking forward to both the show as well as photographing in and around Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons. Then back to CO for a few more shows before returning to Santa Fe, NM in mid August. You can see my full exhibition schedule here.

Old Railyard Warehouse in Steamboat Springs, COThis old railyard warehouse was right next to where I parked my RV for the art show in Steamboat Springs, CO. Old buildings like these sure have a lot of character. This was photographed on my iPhone 4 with the Pro HDR app and further processed on my iPad using Nik's Snapseed App.

It is hard to explain just how relaxing this was following two days of a bad art show in Steamboat Springs, CO.
